Celebrating Seventy-Five Years of Giving
When Mrs. Doheny established her foundation in 1949, what did she dream her legacy would be 75 years later? The beginnings were fairly quiet and humble, yet impactful: Maryvale’s monthly bread bill was paid. Money to provide food baskets for the needy was regularly donated. Support was provided for the Vincentian priests, the Sisters of Social Service and other religious communities. The initial recipients of her generosity were relatively few in number, with funding directed to the areas of Social Welfare, Health & Wellness, Education, and Religion. Today, the Carrie Estelle Doheny Foundation has close to 300 grantees annually, aligned with the same causes that Mrs. Doheny championed.
